Q. Is there any way to change Google settings so that threaded messages appear as individual message and not in a single nested message?
Yes, this option is now available
in Settings under Conversation View.

Alt. Another way to avoid threaded conversation is through the use of a POP mail client such as Mac Mail or Thunderbird.

Q. Is there a way to view sent item properties (i.e. view who open, deleted, etc.)?
No, this is not available in Google at this time. 

Q. Can I send starred or high priority emails in Gmail?
No, this is not available in Google at this time.

Q. Is there a way to retract a sent item?
Google does not have this automatically built in to their system but it does have a Labs feature called Undo Sent.  To use this you must first enable Undo Sent from the Labs section of your Gmail Settings. Undo Sent only allows 5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds to retract an item.  Otherwise, the message sent is not retractable.

Q. How can I search for a message within a specific label?
On the top of your message window and to the right of search mail / search web - there is a link to show search options.  Here, you can select which label to search, partial word or phrase, etc.  In addition, you can use advance search options.  

Q. Is there a way to sort message views in Google (i.e. by received date or sender, etc.)
Although you cannot sort messages in Google, you can use Google's search feature - On the top of your message window and to the right of search mail / search web.  In addition, you can use advance search options. 

Q. Is there a way to print a single message within a thread of messages?
You can print out individual threads by expanding to the thread you want printed - within that thread window - click on arrow down button (to right of reply all option) - select print - will print that message only. 

Q. Is there a way to delete a single message within a thread of messages?
Yes, expand/click to message within the thread - click on the arrow down button to the right of your reply button.  A menu of options will appear, select delete message. 

Q. Is there a way to forward a single message within a thread of messages?
Yes, expand/click to message within the thread - click on the arrow down button to the right of your reply button.  A menu of options will appear, select forward message.   

Q. If all the threads are seen by me and I click on "Reply" but add another recipient, will that recipient also see all of the threads as well?
Yes, however to avoid - when replying and/or adding additional recipients, be sure to scroll down and delete threaded message below before sending message.  In some cases, you may have to click on "show quoted text" to see remainder of thread.

Another way is to break away from the thread altogether by selecting reply-to or reply-all and click on edit subject under To: field - Changing the subject line will branch off of the original thread.  Remember, you have the option to keep the history of the message or delete the history of thread below.

Q. Is there a way to print a draft message before it is sent to recipient?
Yes, first you must click save now button to save a copy in Draft.  Then click on the Draft label, select draft message, and now you should have a print all option in the upper right corner of the message window. 

Q. How do I view emails in the archive?
Archived messages can be found in All Mail. If the message had a label you would also be able to pull the message up by clicking on the label or searching for the label. When someone responds to a message you've archived, the conversation containing that message will reappear in your inbox.

Q. Where is my All Mail view?
You can find your All Mail under More option below your labels.  You can drag any of these views up to the top for quick view. 

Q. How can I easily see the size of individual email messages?
Currently Gmail doesn't display the size of individual messages, but you can see how much of your storage limit is in use at the bottom of any Gmail page.

Q. Does Google have rules that would allow an auto-reply to reply only to specific users, or subject line, etc.?
Google does not have this automatically built in to their system but it does have a Labs feature called Canned Responses that can be configured to work as an auto reply. To use this you must first enable Canned Responses from the Labs section of your Gmail Settings. Once you enable this lab you will see the "Canned Responses" drop down menu in Compose Mail and as an option when creating a filter. Save a message as a canned response and you can create a filter to send this automatically. View Google's instructions for Creating a Filter for more information.

Q. What is Google’s attachment size?
Maximum Attachment Sizes - With Gmail, you can send and receive messages up to 25 megabytes (MB) in size. Please note that you may not be able to send larger attachments to contacts that use other email services with smaller attachment limits.

Q. Can I delete an attachment from a message without deleting the message to save space?
Although you do not have the ability to simply delete an attachment only, there are work-around (s) to accomplish it.

Alt 1 - You could download the attachment to your local machine and then delete the entire message including the attachment OR

Alt 2 - Below was found on Google's Help as a work around from a Google user:

Open your incoming mail that has the unwanted attachment and then select "show original" from the reply menu.  Select as much of the original mail as you want to archive (e.g. the header and the text part of the body only), and copy.    Then use compose to start a new message addressed to yourself,   paste the original header and body text into the new message body,  copy the original subject into the new message subject field,   and send it.   The message that comes back contains everything you wanted to save from the original mail without the attachment, so if you now label it appropriately. that should help you remember who it was originally from,  and you can now delete the original mail with its unwanted attachment.  

Q. In trash, how can you sort items in there to permanently delete.
Once a message is deleted from mail, the deleted message will remain in the trash for 30 days, and subsequently purged.  If a message is deleted within the Trash container, the message is deleted immediately and permanently.

Q. How do I send embedded images in Gmail?
To do so you must enable the "Inserting Images" lab feature. Once this is done you will have an "Insert Image" icon when composing mail. 

Q. Is there a way to preview a message without opening the message?
No, however...

Alt. There is a way to view your subject line and partial message through a setting called snippets.  This can be found through settings under the general tab.  Select show snippets.


Q. How do I forward my risd.edu messages to another account?

Q. Is there a notification program Google Mail?
Yes. Google's has a program for Mac & PC platforms. In addition, Google Chrome has Desktop Notifications.
